Saint Vincent de Paul Conference (SVP)

What?

What do we do?

The SVP is a registered Charity and operates, nationally, a Twinnage scheme whcih assists Indian SVP conferences. Holy Trinity is twinned with two Conferences in India, with whom regular correspondence is maintained.

The brothers and sisters in our group visit, regularly, the sick, housebound, elderly, single parents and families, in a spirit of friendship, bringing material and spiritual support. Visits are made to parishioners in their homes, in hospital or in one of the residential homes in the area. (click here to see full list)

Holy Trinity SVP also organises a weekly minibus bringing parishioners to the 9.30 am Sunday Mass.

Where?

Where is it held?

Weekly meetings are in Holy Trinity Community Centre.

The area covered by Holy Trinity SVP includes Newcastle, Silverdale, Chesterton and Knutton. Both of the large hospitals are visited on a regular basis and visits are also made to Bradwell hospital. regular visits are made to Ashfield Grange, Brighton House, Broadmeadows, The Homestead, Lee House, Madeley, Littlemeadows, Lyme Court, Lyme Valley House, Rowan Court and St. Quentin. Visits are also made to other Residential Homes and Sheltered accommodation when requested.

When?

When does it take place?

We meet in Holy Trinity Community Centre on Monday evenings at 7.30 pm. Meetings are not normally held on bank holidays or on the second Monday of each month. Otherwise the meetings are weekly, begin and end with prayers and usually last for one hour. All our visits are discussed in the strictest confidence.

Why?

What is its purpose?

Holy Trinity Conference is part of an international Catholic lay organisation known as the St Vincent de Paul Society, inspired by our founder Frederic Ozanam, and under the patronage of St Vincent de Paul. We seek to help, by person to person contact, anyone in the parish who may be in need, This may be material need, loneliness, sickness, disability or someone who just wants a friendly chat. We serve people in need, regardless of colour, creed, opinion or origin.

How?

How can I become involved?

We rely heavily on the support of all our parishioners for funding, primarily through the retiring collection for the SVP after Mass, and we are alwsays grateful for the wonderful support we receive. We are also always keen to hear from anyone who has a relative or friend who they feel might benefit from a friendly visit and a chat.

if you feel challenged by this work, please contact any of the members below for more information.

Who?

Who is it for?

Who runs it?

Catholic in character, the SVP is open to all who wish to live their faith by loving their neighbour through the person whom they visit.

Full membership involves a commitment to attend our weekly meetings; however, Auxiliary membership is also available for those who just want to help on an occasional basis. All members are registered with the National Council of the Society. Our work is carried out in close co-operation with the Parish Priest, Father Philip Griffin, who is our Spiritual Director, with Father Eric Kembal, the Hospital Chaplain and with Deacon Neil Adlington. The Sisters of Mercy are also strongly associated with our group, two of the sisters being active members.
